IN 1945, THE WRITTEN OBJECTIVE FOR THE ROTARY FOUNDATION WAS:
- The Promotion of The Rotary Foundation Fellowships for advanced study;
- The fostering of any tangible and effective projects which have as their purpose the furthering of better understanding and friendly relations between the peoples of different nations; and
- The providing of emergency relief for Rotarians and their families wherever war or other disaster has brought general destruction and suffering.
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO DO “GOOD WORK” TODAY!
POLIO PLUS IS A SIGNATURE PROGRAM OF THE ROTARY FOUNDATION.
PolioPlus is Rotary’s priority program which supports global efforts to eradicate polio. It was launched in 1985, with the help of Dr. Albert Sabin, developer of the oral polio vaccine, as a worldwide program to protect children from the cruel and fatal consequences of polio. In 1988, the World Health Assembly challenged the world to eradicate polio, and since that time, Rotary’s efforts, along with partner agencies, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations’ Children’s Fund, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and governments around the world have achieved a 99 percent reduction in the number of polio cases worldwide. By the time the world is certified polio-free, our contributions will make Rotary the largest non-governmental financial contributor to the global polio eradication effort.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ROTARY’S NUMBER ONE GOAL-END POLIO NOW!
Secretary's thoughts for this week.
OK, Cornwall members, let’s get in on the Agape Centre One Bag Challenge. You’ll remember that for our charter night August 15, 2017 we collected food items from those who attended. Let’s celebrate that anniversary by doing it again.
The One Bag Challenge is ongoing throughout the month of August. Donations can be dropped off at the Agapè Centre at 40 Fifth St. West.
Makeups
Are you entering your makeups? Before I left I entered all those who took part in the Ottawa cruise organized by Len Goddard. When I checked this week to enter a meeting that Fred and i did in Charlottetown, PEI, I noticed that many of you have not entered anything.
At this time of the year, do not 'bank' anything. Just keep assigning a date until you run out of official meeting dates. Do your meetings/makeups meet the 'at least one hour' format for makeups? Are you entering your Foundation donations up to $100? Do you dog-sit, water flowers for your neighbour, do any activity with another Rotary Club? All those count as makeups.
