Surveys

As a result of Tuesday's online meeting, we need to find out several things to decide at our May 28 meeting. The surveys are very short and should not take long to complete. Please do these by May 15. When you have finished all, you can mark this in as a makeup. I had to separate them because Survey Monkey limits what and how you can ask in each survey.

Meeting day and time.
There are two questions. Please choose whatever times work for you. You can also comment or give suggestions.

Partner membership dues proposal.

Committee membership

Area Directors

If there are other items that you want discussed at the meeting, please send them to Ariane.

Paul Harris Recipients

One of the advantages of having everyone's photo in profiles is that we can show things like this. Check out our Facebook page!

The Rotary Club of D7040 Passport announces that the following members are now Paul Harris Fellows: Laird Coghill, Margaret Shibley, Sharron Czorny, Yves Soumillon, and Barry Rowlands. Congratulations!

You will receive your pin and certificate at a time that we can get together.

Camp Cleanup

By Len Goddard
Camp Sonshine was too difficult to reach on Saturday because of the flooding. June 1 has been scheduled as a new date for the cleanup. If you are interested in helping, contact Len GoddardSeveral club members from the meeting on Tuesday indicated they were interested.

May is Rotary International's Youth Service Month!

During this special month, Rotarians and young members of the Rotary family, including Interactors, Rotaractors, and RYLA and Rotary Youth Exchange participants, are encouraged to develop meaningful connections that last throughout the year. With our new Interact Club, what a wonderful way to start this month!

Want to get more involved in Youth Service Month but not sure how to start?
1. Plan a joint service project with Rotarians and young leaders in your community.
2. Fundraise to support initiatives that develop young leaders.

WEEK 45 THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

WHAT CAN YOUR $100.00 DONATION TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION DO?  Your $100 donation to The Rotary Foundation can help provide textbooks for one elementary school in Zambia, provide a hearing aid for a deaf child in Pakistan, buy de-worming tablets for 112 children in the Philippines, pay for cataract operations for three blind people in India, or provide 230 blankets for the elderly in the winter months of Korea.

YOU CAN COMMIT TODAY TO DONATING $100 OR MORE PER YEAR TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AND START MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLE’S LIVES.  WILL YOU?

We are at a critical point for our Foundation donations. In order to achieve one of the goals of this year’s Citation, we need to contribute at least $100 per capita to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund donations are unrestricted and are the only funds recognized for this goal. You can donate through the Donate link at the left. Please do this before June 15 so your donation will be recognized for this year. Remember that donating at least $100 to TRF counts as a makeup.
Two members have already donated for the Foundation Walk in Kingston. I will be adding their names and ID to the Multiple Donor sheet that I have started. If you are interested, e-transfer the money to me at ariane.carriere@rotary7040.com and I will include you as a donor. Fred and I will be attending.

Rotary ABC’s - Types of Membership

There are two types of Rotary club membership: active and honorary.

An active member is one who has been elected to membership under a business or professional classification and enjoys all the obligations, responsibilities, and privileges of membership as provided in the RI Constitution and Bylaws. Active members may hold office in their clubs and serve RI at the district and international levels. They are expected to meet attendance requirements, pay dues, and bring new members into Rotary.

Honorary Rotary membership may be offered to people who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals. Our club does not have an honorary membership, nor leaves of absence  An honorary member is elected for one year only, and continuing membership must be renewed annually. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club or hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues.

Many distinguished heads of state, explorers, authors, musicians, astronauts, and other public personalities have been honorary members of Rotary clubs, including King Gustaf of Sweden, King George VI of England, King Badouin of Belgium, King Hassan III of Morocco, Sir Winston Churchill, Albert Schweitzer, Charles Lindbergh, Jean Sibelius, Sir Edmund Hillary, Thor Heyerdahl, Thomas Edison, Walt Disney, Bob Hope, Albert Sabin, Margaret Thatcher, and many of the presidents of the United States.

Newsletters

Now available: The Rotary Basics online course

Want to test your Rotary knowledge? Need a resource for new member orientation? Rotary Basics is now an online course that introduces Rotary in an interactive, multimedia format.

In this new Learning Center course, you can read about members around the world, learn about our values and causes, watch videos, and deepen your understanding of Rotary. You can also take a quiz to test your Rotary knowledge.

The course was designed for new members, but it’s also a great refresher for other members or even an overview for non-members who want to know what Rotary is all about.
