April 30 Meeting
Plans for 2019-2020 will be discussed. PE Chris will outline some of his plans for the year. Our DG, Martha Weaver, will join us at the meeting.
Foundation Walk
Plan to go to Kingston on May 11. There were five of us at the District Training Assembly and I hope to see many more there. Registration information is in Documents. Use a multiple donor sheet to collect pledges.
The District Conference is a great time to meet up with other Rotarians and find out what has been happening in the district.
Meet the Member
The only way that we get to know each other is by having you write a little bio about yourself. We’ve had quite a few new members lately who have not seen these before. I can either take the little description that you wrote on your application, or assign you a week in the future. Contact me.
Rotary throughout the year shines the spotlight on their key areas of focus. From this there are theme months, where April is Maternal & Child Health Month.
Nearly 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation.
Through projects sponsored by Rotary around the world we empower mothers and minimise the heartbreak of infant mortality.
April 7-13 is National Volunteer Week
Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthles, but because they're priceless.
Back to the Future
Having just completed District President-elect training, I’m looking forward to helping everyone make our club grow. We also qualified for Grants for 2019-2020.
Increasing basic awareness of our club among our District is step one. With your help, this will soon be a reality Details in weeks to come.
President-elect Chris
My Big FAB Rotary Dinner
Did you have your dinner? We were not able to get a live link from President Barry. You have another chance for you on May 4.
Contact Ariane if you have questions about getting donations credited for a tax receipt.
We need someone for RYLA
As part of our goals for this year, we had decided that we were going to send someone to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy). Do you know a high school student who would benefit from intensive leadership activities? Let me know. The fee has been paid.
April dues
For those of you who are doing quarterly dues, our last instalment for this Rotary year was due April 1. Send an e-transfer/Interac payment electronically to d7040passport@gmail.com
Hamburg
Our Rotary/Rotaract member, Madeline Roy will be heading to Germany. Jacinthe organized some donations from club members to cover the cost of Madeline's registration.
Rotary ABC's - Lessons in Rotary Geography
Were you aware that the Rotary Club of Reno, Nevada, USA, is farther west than the Rotary Club of Los Angeles?
Would you guess that the meetings of the Rotary Club of Portland, Maine, USA, are farther south than those of the clubs in London, England?
Can you imagine that the Rotary Club of Pensacola, Florida, USA, is west of the Detroit, Michigan, USA, club?
It’s a fact that the Rotary Club of Cairo, Illinois, USA, is south of Richmond, Virginia, USA.
There are 143 Rotary clubs with Tokyo in their club names.
The Rotary Club of Nome, Alaska, USA, lies west of the club in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and the Santiago, Chile, club is located east of the Rotary Club of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Rotary geographers will know that virtually every Rotary club meeting in Australia is east of the Hong Kong Rotary club.
What do the Rotary clubs of Quito, Ecuador; Libreville, Gabon; Singapore; and Kampala, Uganda, have in common? You guessed right if you said they all meet approximately on the equator.
The Rotary Club of Iqaluit in our district can only be reached by airplane, unless you want to take a transport ship in the few months that the water can be navigated. The President Elect actually is the only one who has to fly to PETS.
The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages: WEEK 41
WHAT IS THE ROTARY FOUNDATION’S FUNDING CYCLE? The Rotary Foundation has a unique funding cycle that utilizes contributions for programs three years after they are received. The three-year cycle gives districts time for program planning and participant selections, and allows The Rotary Foundation to invest the contributions. The earnings from those investments help pay for administration, program operations and fund development costs. Your contribution in Rotary year 2018-19 will be invested in Rotary year 2018-19, and projects will be selected in Rotary year 2019-20, with the funds actually spent in Rotary year 2020-21.
WITH PLENTY OF TIME TO BE INVOLVED IN HOW YOUR DONATION IS SPENT, PLEASE SUPPORT THE ROTARY FOUNDATION NOW AND GET INVOLVED IN PLANNING FUTURE PROJECTS!
