Club meeting

Minutes of the March 5 meeting, and the Financial report are posted in Documents.
The District Conference is a great time to meet up with other Rotarians and find out what has been happening in the district.

Meet the Member

The only way that we get to know each other is by having you write a little bio about yourself. We’ve had quite a few new members lately who have not seen these before. I can either take the little description that you wrote on your application, or assign you a week in the future. Contact me.

My Big FAB Rotary Dinner

This is now on for all of District 7040. We have such a very good challenge to try and have Rotarians across the zone participate.  You invite non-Rotarians into your home for dinner on Saturday, April 6. It is something that we can do with our club wherever it is that we are. Have a nice menu and so on but let people know ahead of time that this is a meal that you're suggesting for PolioPlus now contributions.

The flyer can be found in Documents and mentions a 30-dollar donation per guest. It doesn't necessarily have to be that much it can be whatever it is that you want it to be. Because of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation your contributions are going to be tripled. Chris, Fred, and Ariane will be at the District Foundation Dinner on that day and will also give a donation.

Contact Ariane about getting donations credited for a tax receipt.

New! Rotary Basics online course – now available

Statistics show that members who receive an official new member orientation are Rotarians longer than those who do not. Not sure where to start with new member orientation? Rotary Basics is now an online course in the Learning Center that covers all things Rotary in an interactive, multimedia format. You’ll be able to meet members around the world, watch videos, and interact with the course to deepen your understanding of Rotary. The Rotary Basics online course was designed for new members, but it can also be a great refresher for current members or even nonmembers who simply want to know what Rotary is all about.

World Water Day March 22

World Water Day takes place each and every year on March 22nd, and aims to underline the importance of water. While this may sound simple – and, in many people’s eyes, a bit daft – the lack of clean water around the world, alongside the damaging effects of global warming, water pollution and damaged water tables, is more important to understand than ever.

The initiative is spearheaded by the UN, alongside UNESCO, the World Water Council and the WWF – the one with pandas, not the one with Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. Using the day as a basis for longer-term action, the UN aims to ensure that everyone in the world has access to safe water by 2030, while not impacting the environment.

Rotary ABC's - Unusual Make-up Meetings

Which Rotarians have to travel farthest for a make-up meeting? You are right if you guessed the members of the Rotary Club of Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia, which is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and is the club that is most remote from any other. The southernmost Rotary meeting is that of the Rotary Club of Base Marambio-Antártida in Antarctica. To visit the northernmost club, you must travel to the Rotary Club of Svalbard, Norway, on the Svalbard island group north of the Norwegian mainland.

It is said that there is a Rotary meeting being held someplace in the world every hour of every day. If you attended one meeting per day, it would take more than 80 years to visit all of the more than 32,000 Rotary clubs in the world, and by that time, no doubt, there would be thousands more new clubs to attend.

But today, Rotarians don’t even need to leave their homes to make up meetings. Rotary e-clubs allow you to make up online, 24 hours a day, and join in discussions with Rotarians from every part of the world.

As Passport Club members, we can also do volunteer activities for our make-ups. We have several members now who have done at least the minimum 40 hours that we request, and are still going. Have you marked your make-ups in recently?

What is a Benefactor?

When you include the Endowment Fund as a beneficiary in your estate plans or when you donate $1,000 or more to the fund outright. Benefactors receive a certificate and insignia to wear with a Rotary or Paul Harris Fellow pin.

One of our goals this year to obtain a Rotary Citation is to have at least one new benefactor. You do not need to show proof that you have changed your will, you just need to fill out the certificate of intent.

You can find out more information about recognition from The Rotary Foundation on the Donor Recognition website page.

The Rotary Foundation Weekly Messages: WEEK 38

WHAT IS THE ROTARY FOUNDATION’S “DISTRICT DESIGNATED FUND”?  At the end of every contribution year, each Rotary district’s contributions to the Annual Fund are divided into two funds. 50 percent is credited to the District Designated Fund (DDF).  The District Designated Fund is allocated by the District to fund the Rotary Foundation programs in which it chooses to participate, such as District Grants, Global Grants or Polio! DDF even receives a 100% match from our Foundation when used in a Global Grant.

IT IS THIS FUNDING FORMULA WHICH TRULY MAKES THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AN INTEGRAL PARTY OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL IN OUR HOME COMMUNITIES.
