Welcome to our newest member, Howaida (Heddy) Sorour-Roberts. Heddy is formerly from the Rotary Club of Smiths Falls. We look forward to her Meet the Member article, which reminds me that I am still waiting for some of you to send that to me.

We’re Going to Have an Interact Club

As the district Interact chair, it is my duty to keep track of how Interact clubs are doing, and whether their sponsor clubs are involved with their activities. I noticed that there was a problem with the Interact Club at West Island College, Montreal, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Montreal-Lakeshore. They did not have a Rotarian adviser.

At PETS, I talked to the president and secretary and they mentioned that Murray and Carol Horn used to go to the school, but now they were in the Passport Club? Would we be willing to take over sponsorship if Murray and Carol agreed to be the Rotary advisers again? Of course we would. The paperwork has been started and we now have to wait for this to go through to RI after the DG’s signature.

There is no cost involved. Besides having Murray and Carol go there, we could try to organize some events with our Rotarians. I’m thinking roadside clean-up, or something that they may suggest to us. It is late for this year, but we can work out something for next Rotary year. It does help us fulfill one of our goals for this year.

Back to the Future

Creating District-wide general awareness of our Club means telling people!  I plan to attend many club meetings, then frame my words around us a resource for them. I ask you to do the same, when possible. Till next week... Chris Cochrane, PE

Rotary Citation 2018-2019: We’re Almost There

We have achieved the necessary goals in the “Support and Strengthen Clubs” and in the “Enhance Public Image and Awareness” area. We are lacking anything in “Focus and Increase Humanitarian Service”. This is what we need to do:

Achieve at least 3 of the following goals:
  • Sponsor a Rotary Community Corps
  • Sponsor or co-sponsor an Interact or Rotaract club
  • Contribute at least $100 per capita to the Annual Fund
  • Increase the number of members involved in service projects
  • Hold an event to raise funds for, or to increase awareness of, Rotary’s work toward polio eradication
  • Conduct a significant local or international service project in one of Rotary’s six areas of focus
Here’s what we can do to achieve the goal:
  • We’re working on the Interact club, that’s almost done, see earlier note in this bulletin.
  • Could we consider Youth Now as a local service project in Economic and Community Development?
  • Can we contribute at least $100 per capita in the next two months? Right now, we are at $1,889 US in donations to the Annual Fund, but we need to get over $3,100 US. We have the Foundation Walk coming up and I hope that you will collect lots of pledges. All the documents for that are in our Document section. If you have not donated to the Rotary Foundation yet this year, check out the Donate button on the left.
  • Can we do something for My Big Fab Rotary Dinner on May 4 if you did not have your dinner on April 6? Len was talking about having the clean-up at Sonshine Cove (see next article). Perhaps we can combine both.
  • If you enter your makeups, we will have more members involved in service projects because our numbers are larger than last year. I can’t enter participation until you mark in your makeups, however.
  • Have any of you been involved in the Russia Friendship Exchange? I know that I am driving next Tuesday, April 23, for the day. That counts for one of our goals, so if you have done anything, please let me know when and where. Together we can do it.
  • Camp Cleanup

(By Len Goddard)
Like most of you I have been waiting for winter to go away.

When we last met, we talked about the possibility of doing a one-day project at Sonshine Cove.  The camp for individuals with special needs is 120 km north of Ottawa in Quebec.  We have been waiting for the snow to go (usually by early April, we still have several feet).  We think that by Saturday May 4th we should be able to do our spring cleanup.   This involves cleaning inside (windows, appliances etc.), outside cleaning and raking the grass, beach area -picking up things that have arrived over the winter.  Depending on the skills of those attending there could be some minor repairs.

We would spend the day, or if you want to come Friday and spend the night that can be arranged.  Let me know if you are interested and available as soon as possible.  Further planning can be done when we know who is coming. Rotary ABC's - Official Directory
How do you find out when the Rotary club meets in Toowoomba, Pondicherry, or Recklinghausen? Simply turn to the Official Directory of Rotary International at www.rotary.org The Official Directory is only accessible with a My Rotary account.

The meeting day, time, and location of every one of the more than 32,000 clubs is listed. From the Rotary Club of A’Famosa Malacca, Malaysia, to Zwolle-Noord, The Netherlands, the Official Directory provides the name, street address, and e-mail address of each club president and secretary, as well as the number of club members and charter date.

Rotarians can also find information on club meetings through the Club Locator feature at www.rotary.org.

And, by the way, Toowoomba meets every Monday at 1800 hours, Pondicherry on Wednesdays at 1930, and Recklinghausen on Mondays at 1300. Now that’s good to know!

We have someone for RYLA

As part of our goals for this year, we had decided that we were going to send someone to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy). Marcos Vinícius Lôbo Magalhães is the son of friends of Jacinthe and her husband. We will ask him to report to us at our June 25 meeting.
