Our next online club meeting on August 27 will be at a time we agreed to try at the last meeting to see if it works better. We will meet at 5 pm via Zoom next week, not the standard 7 pm.

If you have feedback or input on this or other issues please do so online on August 27.

Coffee with A Rotarian continues. Please keep an eye on your email for an invite
Till next time...

Secretary's thoughts for this week

There is no way that Fred and I can make a 5 PM meeting. I am hereby resigning as secretary and all the duties that go with it, including the bulletin, because I cannot meet those requirements.

Dues

While I was getting ready for this bulletin and adding events and documents, I also checked the Dues & Billing page. Have you e-transferred you dues yet to d7040passport@gmail.com? If you did not receive an invoice, contact David Wood, our club treasurer.

Areas of Focus

Did you know? New names for some of the 6 Areas of Focus! Check it out.https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes

The Rotary Foundation has changed the names of three areas of focus (marked with asterisks) to better reflect the types of projects that Rotary members carry out. The six areas of focus are:
§ Peacebuilding and conflict prevention*
§ Disease prevention and treatment
§ Water, sanitation, and hygiene*
§ Maternal and child health
§ Basic education and literacy
§ Community economic development*

Some of the areas of focus goals have also changed. You’ll find new activities related to the environment in the updated Areas of Focus Policy Statements. Have a look at:
http://msgfocus.rotary.org/c/12VJic599XUY1VZJpxLihGHBl1

Over the next few weeks we'll be posting a series on Rotary's six areas of focus.

Rotary is dedicated to six areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever. These areas are:
- Supporting education
- Fighting disease
- Saving mothers and children
- Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Growing local economies
- Promoting peace

To achieve sustainable solutions, we partner with organizations, companies, and government agencies that offer the expertise, access, and scale that can propel Rotarian initiatives to long-term success. We pull together the right partners, the right people, and the right structure to leverage the power of local Rotarian efforts.

OK, Cornwall members, let’s get in on the Agape Centre One Bag Challenge. Have you done that yet? I'm on for next week. You’ll remember that for our charter night August 15, 2017 we collected food items from those who attended. Let’s celebrate that anniversary by doing it again.

The One Bag Challenge is ongoing throughout the month of August. Donations can be dropped off at the Agapè Centre at 40 Fifth St. West.

Makeups

This message is a repeat from last week. Are you entering your makeups? Before I left I entered all those who took part in the Ottawa cruise organized by Len Goddard. When I checked this week to enter a meeting that Fred and i did in Charlottetown, PEI, I noticed that many of you have not entered anything.

At this time of the year, do not 'bank' anything. Just keep assigning a date until you run out of official meeting dates. Do your meetings/makeups meet the 'at least one hour' format for makeups? Are you entering your Foundation donations up to $100? Do you dog-sit, water flowers for your neighbour, do any activity with another Rotary Club? All those count as makeups.
