It's that time of year

Are you intending to remain as a member of the D7040 Passport Club? It would be helpful to Treasurer David and to me to let your wishes be known. Although we hate to lose anyone, we do not want to pay for members who are not there. We had some people that we paid all dues for with RI and the District, yet they did not let us know until after payment had been made that they were resigning. Let us know, it helps everyone.

Inter-club Dinner in Cornwall

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 12, for a supper club meeting in the Rotary Tea Room at the Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge, Cornwall beginning at 5:30pm. All Rotarians are welcome. Please spread the news to your members, their spouses, friends and potential members that can’t make it to our usual meeting times.

Agenda is now finalized and posted in Documents. Theme is orange to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21st)

Room capacity is 55 guests. We have 5 going from our club, but there's always room for more.

Survey Results

These items are now final since we voted on them at our meeting on May 28.

Directors
It has been suggested that we add Area Directors to our Board who would act as a point of contact for each area. The three main areas that we draw members from are Ottawa, Cornwall and Montreal. Additions of Board members require a change in our bylaws, which may need to be updated because of the Council on Legislation anyway. Do you agree that we add Area Directors to our Board, and that we update the bylaws to reflect that decision? Yes 8, No 1

We agreed to Area Directors at our meeting, but will need to look at wording carefully.

Having Our Partners Become Rotarians
It has been suggested that we get our partners to join as Rotarians. If we leave our dues the same, that would be $500.00 per couple, per year. A suggestion has been made that we allow for RI and District dues and have only one partner pay for club incidentals. This would allow us to charge $450.00 per couple. Are you in favour? Yes 6, No 3. Agreed.

Committee Membership
Next year's goals requests that we appoint a committee of at least 5 members each for Membership and for The Rotary Foundation. Keep in mind that most meetings will be online. Which Committee do you want to join? Membership 5, The Rotary Foundation 3, Neither 2

Comments: Unfortunately I did not think about the fact that the surveys were anonymous. Would the people who want to be on the Membership Committee contact me, and those for the Foundation can contact Jacinthe.

Meeting Day and Time
It was agreed that we would continue our monthly meetings at 7 PM on Tuesdays using Zoom. See Events on the left.

Camp Cleanup

By Len Goddard
Camp Sonshine was too difficult to reach because of the flooding. June 1st a small two person team to go to the Cove to prep for the following weekend.

June 7th – 9th We hope to have a larger team of volunteers on hand.  If you can come for some it the time it would be  appreciated.  We will be cleaning (raking the grounds, leaves);cleaning the beach.. debris from winter, cleaning all water craft, installing docks and still a bit more cleaning inside the main building.

Let me know if you can help on any of the days on June 7-9.  When I know the numbers and who we will work out the details, contact Len GoddardSeveral club members from the meeting on Tuesday, April 30 indicated they were interested.

WEEK 49 THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

MATCHING MONEY WITH PEOPLE FOR POSITIVE RESULTS.   The Rotary Foundation has been so effective because it matches money with people.  In the words of Arch C. Klumph: “Money alone does little good.  Individual service is helpless without money.  The two together can be a Godsend to civilization.”

YOUR FINANCIAL RESOURCES AND YOUR TIME, ENERGY AND TALENT ARE USEFUL IN THE ROTARY MISSION.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS AND YOUR EFFORTS IN SUPPORT OF THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AND ROTARY INTERNATIONAL.

Rotary ABC’s - Role of Assistant Governors

The office of assistant governor, or area governor in our district, was created in 1996 as a key element of the District Leadership Plan, the organizational structure for all districts that was adopted by the RI Board in an effort to help district governors better support their clubs. Area governors are appointed by the district governor to assist in the administration of assigned clubs. These key Rotary leaders help incoming club presidents plan for their year and for the governor’s official visit, advise clubs on strategies to achieve goals, and visit their assigned clubs at least four times a year.

In addition to providing more responsive support for clubs, area governors also form a pool of well-trained district leaders from which to select future governors. The area governor serves as an important resource for both the clubs and the district governor, helping to ensure that everything runs more smoothly within the district.

Request for volunteers

By Jennifer Wyatt
I am on the board of the Ottawa Bach Choir and we are looking for volunteers. I wondered if this was something the Rotary Club may be interested in doing.

Here is the info for the calendar.
Dates for next season's concerts are:
Sunday, December 1, 2019
Saturday, March 7, 2020
Saturday, May 2, 2020

Concerts are at 8 pm (venues TBA), so Front of House volunteers should plan to show up at 6:30 pm, dressed in formal business attire (black, if possible). We need people to help out with logistics (setting up Reserved signs), managing the Reserved areas, greeting people, handing out programs, and helping to take tickets and CD orders. We will provide on-the-spot training. Contact Jennifer if you are able to volunteer.
